Helping Hershey

Hershey wants to update his kennel with some new carpet.

His kennel is a rectangle and measures 10 feet in length and 5 feet in width.

Hershey wanted to find the area of his kennel so he added up his sides and came up with 30 feet as his area.

Is Hershey correct? Why or why not? Please explain your answer.
